Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

• The Delhi Assembly Election is scheduled for February 5, 2025. Both opposition as well as ruling parties are luring voters with their welfare schemes.
• In a bid to form the next government in Delhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its manifesto which is known as Sankalp Patra.
• The BJP Manifesto comprises several schemes for the Delhiites, including "Matritva Vandana Yojana" for pregnant women.
• With this scheme, the BJP aims to provide maternity benefits to pregnant women of disadvantaged groups of society.
• The scheme proposes financial assistance of Rs 21,000/- and nutritional kits for eligible pregnant women.
• The scheme is likely to be known by other names such as "Chief Minister Matritva Suraksha Yojana" or "Mukhyamantri Matrutva Vandana Scheme" or "Mukhyamantri Matrutva Suraksha Vandana Yojana".
• The primary objective of this scheme is to cater the financial and nutritional needs of women required during pregnancy.
• The assistance promised under the scheme is likely to be offered in installments, whose details are now announced yet.
• Along with this, the party also promises to provide six nutritional kits to these women.
• These nutritional kits will help them to provide essential nutritional support required during pregnancy.

  • Senior Citizens above 70 years will be provided a monthly pension of Rs 3,000 instead of Rs 2,500/- under its Old Age pension scheme, Widow Pension Scheme, and Disability Pension Scheme.
  • To provide nutritious food at Rs 5/- Atal canteen will be opened in Delhi Slums.
• As these scheme are part of the BJP pre-poll promise, it will only be implemented if BJP forms the next government.
• Similar to Matritva Vandana Yojana, the Central Government too runs a scheme for pregnant women known as Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, offering assistance of Rs 6,000/- in three installments.
• The BJP has stated that if they secure win in the Delhi Assembly election, they will implement the scheme in their first cabinet meeting.

Scheme Benefits

• The Bharatiya Janata Party has promised to provide the following benefits to pregnant women under its Matritva Vandana Yojana : -
  • Each eligible woman will receive a financial assistance of Rs 21,000/- during pregnancy.
  • For nutritional support, each woman will receive Six Nutritional kits during the pregnancy.
  • The assistance amount will be credited to the beneficiary's bank account in installments.

Eligibility Requirements

• Women who meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the scheme are eligible for Matritva Vandana Scheme benefits. However, as the party did not share detailed information during the scheme announcement, the criteria shared below are tentative and subject to change : -
  • Beneficiaries must be domiciled residents of Delhi.
  • Applicants must be pregnant women.

Steps to Apply

• Eligible women must apply for the Matritva Vandana Yojana to avail of its benefits.
• Applications for Matritva Vandana Yojana can be submitted either online or offline.
• Online applications can be submitted through the scheme's official portal or through the nodal department website.
• On the other hand, offline applications can be submitted at the nearest Angangwadi center.
• ASHA or Anganwadi workers will guide the beneficiary women throughout the procedure.
• Authority will verify the received applications.
• Applicants who clear the verification test, will receive its benefits from the scheduled period.
