Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

  • In order to promote simple marriage, the state government of Karnataka has launched a unique initiative called "Karnataka Schedule Caste Marriage Assistance Scheme".
  • Under this initiative, the state government provides financial incentives to married couples who opt for a simple marriage.
  • However, the scheme is applicable for couples belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) category.
  • According to Karnataka Schedule Caste Marriage Assistance Scheme, each eligible couple will receive an incentive of Rs 50,000/-.
  • The assistance amount will be credited to the beneficiary's bank account by the nodal authority.
  • To oversee the implementation of the scheme, the government has assigned state Social Welfare Department as its nodal authority.
  • The primary objective of the scheme is to encourage simple marriage practice among the SC community, which reduces the extra financial burden on the families.
  • Announced scheme is also known as "Karnataka Incentive for the simple marriage scheme for SC" or "Karnataka SC Marriage Assistance Scheme".
  • To receive incentive under the Karnataka Schedule Caste Marriage Assistance Scheme, both the bride and groom must belong to the SC category.
  • Inter caste married couples are not eligible for this scheme as their is already a scheme for them which is known as ' Karnataka SC Inter Couple Marriage Assistance Scheme'.
  • Applicants must fulfill the eligibility criteria outlined in the scheme, failure to do so will not receive scheme benefit.
  • Couples who were married on or after 11 August 2015 are eligible to apply. However, the application to receive assistance must be submitted within one year of their marriage date.
  • Applications submitted after the given period will not be considered.
  • Marriage Certificate is required at the time of applying for Karnataka Schedule Caste Marriage Assistance Scheme.
  • Eligible Beneficiaries can apply for financial assistance for marriage by filling Online Application Form of Karnataka Schedule Caste Marriage Assistance Scheme.

Scheme Benefits

  • The following financial assistance will be provided to married couples of Karnataka belonging to Schedule Caste Category under Karnataka Schedule Caste Marriage Assistance Scheme :-
    • Incentive of Rs. 50,000/- to married couples of SC category.
    • Incentive amount will be credited into beneficiary bank account.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Beneficiary who meet the following eligibility criteria can avail incentive for the simple marriage : -
    • Beneficiary must be a domiciled resident of Karnataka.
    • Beneficiary couples must belong to the SC category.
    • Annual Family Income of the beneficiary should not exceed Rs 2 Lakh.
    • To avail benefits scheme application must be submitted within one year of marriage.

Ineligibility Criteria of Scheme

  • Beneficiaries who fall under any of the following criteria will not be considered eligible for the incentive for the simple marriage : -
    • Applicants other than SC categories are not eligible for the scheme.
    • If applicant annual family income exceeds the limit of Rs 2,00,000/-
    • If applicants submitted scheme applications after 1 year of their marriage date.

Steps to Apply

  • Applications for the Karnataka Schedule Caste Marriage Assistance Scheme can be submitted by filling an Online Application Form.
  • Online Application Form of Karnataka Schedule Caste Marriage Assistance Scheme is available on Department of Social Welfare Website.
  • Applicants have to Register first by submitting their Aadhaar number.
  • After Registration fill the basic details about Bride, Groom, Address of Residence, and Marriage Details in the Application Form.
  • Upload all the required documents in the portal.
  • Enter the Bank Account Details.
  • Preview the Application Form of Karnataka Schedule Caste Marriage Assistance Scheme and Click on Submit Button.
  • Print the Acknowledgement Receipt and save it for future reference.
  • Application Form along with all the documents will be forwarded to District Social Welfare Officer for verification.
  • After verification, the financial assistance under Karnataka Schedule Caste Marriage Assistance Scheme will be transferred to the bank account of the beneficiary.
