Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview
- The Karnataka Government has introduced a healthcare insurance scheme called the "KSRTC Arogya Scheme".
- As the name suggests, the scheme is for the employees of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and their dependents.
- Under this scheme, the state government is providing a cashless treatment facility to KSRTC employees including their dependents.
- Beneficiaries can avail cashless treatment in government medical institutions.
- Additionally, cashless treatment under the KSRTC Arogya Healthcare scheme will also be provided in : -
- Government autonomous Hospitals and research institutes.
- Government autonomous Hospitals and medical colleges.
- Private hospitals whether they are single, multi specialty and super hospitals.
- Ayurvedic, Naturopathy, Unani, and Homeopathic treatment hospitals.
- Diagnostic Centres.
- Eye, Dental, Day treatment, and dialysis centers are also in the list.
- Currently, there are 273 hospitals empanelled in the scheme and in future more hospitals to be added.
- The primary objective of the scheme is to offer cashless treatment without worrying about the financial conditions.
- The scheme is also known by other names such as "KSRTC Arogya Yojana" or "KSRTC Health Insurance Scheme" or "KSRTC Arogya Cashless Scheme".
- The medical treatment provided under the scheme is categorized into two ways : -
- Outpatient Medical Treatment : - A procedure that does not require an overnight stay
- Inpatient Medical Treatment : - A procedure where patient is admitted to the hospitals.
- If beneficiary received outpatient medical treatment in non-recognized hospitals, the medical expenses will be reimbursed to the employees.
- To avail of the cashless treatment benefit, a monthly premium of Rs 650/- will be deducted from employees salary.
- This premium amount will be increased by Rs 50/- every year. For example, in 2026, the monthly premium amount will be Rs 700/-.
- The Corporation will issue the KSRTC Arogya Health Card to each beneficiary.
- Beneficiaries need to produce this health card to avail scheme benefits.
- In case the health card is lost, it will be re-issued after paying a nominal fee of Rs 150/-.
- The KSRTC Arogya scheme will benefit 34000 employees of corporations and their dependents family members, covers a total of around 1.5 lakh people.
- To take care of scheme implementation and its management, the Corporation established a separate trust for the scheme.
- The corporation has issued a initial fund of Rs 20 crore which will be increased annually by 5%.
- If the amount available in the fund including the employee contribution is not enough for medical expenses, then the difference amount will be paid by the corporation.
- Corporation has launched a dedicated portal for the KSRTC Arogya Scheme, where users can collect detailed information about the scheme.
- However, the procedure to obtain KSRTC Arogya health card is not shared yet. If we have its details then the same will be updated here.
- The government promised to extend the scheme benefits to BMTC Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation), NWKRTC (North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation) and KKRTC (Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation) departments.
