Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

• With an aim to provide free electricity, the newly appointed Karnataka Government launched the "Gruha Jyothi Scheme".
• Under the Scheme, the Karnataka Government will provide 200 Units of Electricity per Month Free of Cost to each household.
• The Gruha Jyothi scheme was part of Congress election manifesto and they promised to implemented the same upon winning the election.
• After winning the election, the Karnataka Government implement the Gruha Jyothi Scheme across Karnataka.
• Since its launch, the Gruha Jyothi Scheme has become a major welfare scheme for Karnataka.
• The primary objective behind launching the Gruha Jyothi Scheme is to provide support to the households of Karnataka in this era of inflation.
• Scheme is also known by other names such as "Karnataka Free Electricity Scheme" in which free of cost electricity will be provided to every household of Karnataka.
• Under the scheme, families consumes electricity up to 200 units will receive free power.
• It means, no electricity charge will be paid by those households under Gruha Jyothi Scheme who consume less than 200 units of electricity per month.
• Permanent Residents of Karnataka who have household electricity connection at home are eligible to avail the benefit of free of cost electricity under Gruha Jyothi Scheme.
• If any household consumes more than 200 Units of Electricity per month then those households are not eligible/ ineligible to get free of cost electricity under Karnataka Government's Gruha Jyothi Scheme.
• No Free Electricity will be provided to those consumers who have commercial connection in their name.
• Tenant Residents are also eligible for free of cost electricity up to 200 units under Gruha Jyothi Scheme.
• Subsidized Electricity Bill will be generated to the eligible households of Karnataka from 1st of August 2023. (For July 2023 Consumption).
• Eligible Households have to register themselves first to avail the free of cost electricity under Gruha Jyothi Scheme.
• Registration of the Gruha Jyothi Scheme started from 18th of June 2023.
• Registration for Gruha Jyothi Scheme will be done through 2 ways : -
  • Through Karnataka Gruha Jyothi Scheme Online Application Form.
  • Through Karnataka Gruha Jyothi Scheme Offline Application Form.

Scheme Benefits

• The following benefits will be provided to eligible households of Karnataka under Gruha Jyothi Scheme :-

  • No Amount will be charged from those households who consume less than 200 Electricity Units per Month.

Eligibility Requirements

• Free of Cost Electricity up to 200 units will be provided to those households who fulfil the below mentioned eligibility criteria of Gruha Jyothi Scheme :-
  • Applicants should be a Permanent Resident of Karnataka.
  • Applicant must have a Domestic Electricity Connection.
  • Household of the Applicant consumes less than 200 Units of Electricity per Month.

Required Documents

• The following documents will be required to avail the benefit free of cost electricity up to 200 units under Karnataka Gruha Jyothi Scheme :-
  • Aadhaar Card.
  • Electricity Connection Number.
  • Voter Identity Card.
  • Rent/ Lease Agreement. (In Case of Tenant Beneficiary)
  • Mobile Number.

Steps to Apply

• To avail the benefit of 200 units free electricity under Gruha Jyothi Scheme, eligible households can apply for the scheme : -
  • Through Online Application Form.
  • Through Offline Application Form.

Online Application Process

• Eligible Household Beneficiaries can avail the benefit of free electricity up to 200 units by filling the Online Application Form of Gruha Jyothi Scheme.
• Online Application Form of Karnataka Gruha Jyothi Scheme is available on Seva Sindhu Portal of Government of Karnataka.
• Beneficiaries have to Register themselves first.
• Aadhaar Card is mandatorily needed for beneficiary registration.
• Fill the below mentioned details in the Registration Form : -
  • ESCOM Name.
  • Connection ID.
  • ESCOM Account Holder Name.
  • Account Holder Address.
  • Aadhar Number.
  • Mobile Number.
  • Name of Applicant
• Preview the Application Form of Gruha Jyothi Scheme and Click on Submit Button to submit the application form.
• Submitted Applications of Gruha Jyothi Scheme will be scrutinized by the concerned officials.
• After scrutiny of applications, zero electricity bills will be generated of those beneficiaries whose monthly electricity consumption is below 200 units per month.
• Beneficiaries can also check the Application Status of Gruha Jyothi Scheme by entering the Application ID.

Offline Application Process

• Eligible Household Beneficiaries can also apply for Gruha Jyothi Scheme by filling an Offline Application Form.
• Offline Application Form of Karnataka Gruha Jyothi Scheme is available free of cost at below mentioned centers : -

  • Karnataka One.
  • Bangalore One.
• Collect the Gruha Jyothi Scheme Application Form and Fill it Carefully.
• Attach all the documents with the Application Form.
• Submit the Application Form of Gruha Jyothi Scheme along with all the documents at the centre from where it was collected.
• Received Applications of Gruha Jyothi Scheme will be forwarded for scrutinisation to the concerned officials.
• After verification of applications, subsidised bills will be generated in favour of the beneficiary with effect from 1st of August 2023.
