Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

• Karnataka Anna Bhagya Scheme is also a pre poll promise of Congress Party which they promised to fulfill upon forming a government.
• After winning the poll convincingly, the newly appointed congress party government implemented the scheme.
• Karnataka Anna Bhagya Scheme is one of the major welfare schemes of Karnataka Government.
• The main objective behind launching Karnataka Anna Bhagya Scheme will provide free of cost grains to poor people who are facing difficulty to take care of their daily food needs.
• Karnataka Anna Bhagya Scheme is also known as "Karnataka Free Rice Distribution Scheme" in which free of cost food grains will be given by the Government of Karnataka.
• To oversee the implementation of the scheme, the state government has appointed Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department its nodal authority.
• Under the Karnataka Anna Bhagya Scheme, the Government of Karnataka promised to provide Free of Cost Rice to the people of Karnataka.
• But the Karnataka Government faced a setback from the Central Government, as they refused to provide additional quantities of rice to fulfill their promise.
• Instead of giving 5 Kg of Additional Rice to eligible people, the Karnataka Government will now provide the price of Rice under Anna Bhagya Scheme.
• Government of Karnataka provides Rs. 34/- per Kg to all eligible beneficiaries under Karnataka Anna Bhagya Scheme.
• People belonging to Below poverty line (BPL) are only eligible to get free of cost rice under Karnataka Anna Bhagya Scheme.
• As the scheme is for the BPL families, it is mandatory for all to have BPL card.
• As there is no cap on family members to avail benefits, each family member will get the additional 5 Kg rice amount every month.
• Eligible Persons/ Households have to wait a little more to get their amount of 5 Kg Rice under Karnataka Anna Bhagya Scheme/ Karnataka Free Rice Distribution Scheme.
• From 1st of July 2023, every eligible beneficiary will get an additional 5 kg rice amount under Karnataka Anna Bhagya Scheme.
• It means, each eligible household will receive an amount equivalent to 10 kg rice to each member.
• However, it is expected that very soon the state government will provide grains or rice instead of money.

Scheme Benefits

• The following benefits will be provided to eligible beneficiaries of Karnataka under Karnataka Anna Bhagya Scheme :-
  • Initially, the scheme offers free 10 kg rice to each member of BPL families every month.
  • Now, instead of rice each household will receive an amount equivalent to 10 kg rice per head per month.
  • BPL households will receive 34/kg per member every month.
  • The amount will be credited to the beneficiary bank account.

Eligibility Requirements

• Applicant should be a Permanent Resident of Karnataka.
• Applicants should belong to any of the below mentioned categories : -
  • Below Poverty Line (BPL).
  • Antyodaya Anna Card.

Required Documents

• The following documents will be required to avail the benefit of Karnataka Anna Bhagya Scheme :-
  • Residence Proof/ Domicile of Karnataka.
  • Aadhaar Card.
  • BPL Card/ Antyodaya Anna Card.
  • Mobile Number.

Steps to Apply

• Beneficiaries are not required to apply anywhere to avail the benefit of Karnataka Anna Bhagya Scheme.
• BPL categories households automatically eligible under Karnataka Government's Anna Bhagya Scheme.
• Beneficiary will have to visit the nearest ration shop with their BPL Card to avail the benefit of Karnataka Anna Bhagya Scheme.
• Karnataka Anna Bhagya Scheme is rolled out from July 1, 2023.
• Beneficiaries will get the amount of 10 kg of rice @ Rs. 34 per Kg with effect from 1st of July 2023.
