Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview
- West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee has announced "Banglar Bari Scheme" under the initiative Housing For All.
- Under this scheme, the state government will provide financial assistance to eligible beneficiaries for house construction.
- Each eligible beneficiary will receive an assistance of Rs 1,20,000/- in two equal instalments of Rs. 60,000/- each.
- However, beneficiaries from hilly areas i.e. Jangalmahal and Darjeeling will receive assistance of Rs 1,30,000/-.
- The assistance promised under the scheme will be credited directly to the beneficiary account.
- The scheme is also known as "WB Banglar Bari Yojana" or "WB Banglar Bari Prakalpa" or "West Bengal Banglar Bari Rural Housing Scheme" or "Bangla Awas Yojana" or "Banglar Bari Housing Scheme" or "Banglar Bari Awas Yojana".
- Banglar Bari Scheme is an housing assistance scheme specifically for poor living in the rural part of West Bengal.
- The primary objective of the scheme is to provide a concrete house to the poor living shelter less or in thatched houses.
- For this, the government will provide a total of Rs 1.20 lakh to a family for house construction.
- In the first phase, around 12 lakh families across 21 districts in the state will be benefitted from the scheme.
- During the official inauguration of the scheme, the Bengal Chief Minister released the funds directly to the bank account of these beneficiaries.
- In the year 2025, another 18 lakh fresh beneficiaries are to be included under the Banglar Bari Scheme.
- State government announced this scheme after not receiving funds under the central government flagship PM Awas Yojana.
- In its response, the state government launched its own scheme with an aim to provide concrete houses to the homeless and those currently living in thatched houses.
- The assistance to be provided under the scheme will be taken care of by the state government.
- To select beneficiaries, the Urban Development and Municipal Affairs will conduct a survey district wise.
- Based on the survey conducted, a provisional list of eligible and ineligible applicants will be released by the nodal authority on its official portal.
- Based on this list, the government will transfer the financial assistance amount to the respective beneficiaries account.
- Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), women headed families, and families from minority communities are eligible for the scheme.
- Beneficiaries already availed benefits under any housing scheme are not entitled for the scheme benefits.
- Beneficiaries shortlisted in the provisional list can submit the application form for the Banglar Bari Housing Scheme offline.
- State Urban Development Agency of West Bengal (SUDAWB)will look after the implementation of the scheme across the state.

Eligibility Requirements
- To receive assistance of Rs 1.20 lakh under the Banglar Bari Scheme, beneficiaries must meet the following eligibility criteria : -
- The beneficiary must be a domiciled resident of WB.
- Beneficiaries residing in thatched houses or living without any shelter.
- Women headed families, disabled families, and EWS families will receive preference.
- Th monthly income of the households should not exceeds Rs 10,000/-
Ineligibility Criteria of scheme
- Beneficiaries fall under any of the given criteria will not be considered eligible for Banglar Bari Scheme : -
- Households received benefits under any other housing scheme.
- Beneficiaries living in pucca houses.
- Beneficiaries paying income tax.
- Monthly income of households is more than Rs 10,000/-
- A Household member is a government employee.
- Owns a two/three/four wheeler/fishing boat.
Required Documents
- Eligible applicants are required to produce the following documents when submitting applications for Banglar Bari Scheme : -
- Aadhaar Card.
- Ration Card.
- EWS Certificate (If any)
- Domicile Certificate.
- Minority Certificate (If any)
- Bank Passbook Copy.
- Declaration or affidavit that applicants do not own a pucca house.
Steps to Apply
- Eligible applicants can apply for the Banglar Bari Scheme.
- Application form for the Banglar Bari Scheme can be submitted offline.
- Based on the survey conducted, authorities will release a list of eligible and ineligible households.
- Applicants eligible for the scheme can submit the scheme application in a prescribed format.
- Applicants need to share the personal details and attach relevant documents with their respective applications.
- The concerned authority will verify the beneficiary applications and documents attached with it.
- Upon successful verification, the authority will release the first installment of the Banglar Bari Scheme.
